Burnout

August 23, 2009 directrix Leave a comment

Burnout na yata ako. Ewan.

Reflection on the Batangas Field Trip

March 17, 2008 directrix Leave a comment

This appeared on my class report for Archaeology 2.

The story started one Sunday morning, while waiting for the bus and all our teammates to arrive. We were already taking pictures of each other even before we left for Batangas. I never imagined what we were going to do when we get there.

The trip lasted for at least 3 hours. I was half-asleep then, but I think we made a backtrack somewhere in Cuenca (?). We took another route instead which travelled took me as near as 7 kilometers from my home, in Batangas City. Then went past Sta. Rita, then San Pascual, then Bauan and finally, Sta. Teresita.

We rested for almost an hour, I think, then we set off to what became my personal nightmare. We hiked all the way to Sta. Teresita’s Taal Lake coast to visit a church ruin were the town of Bauan used to stand, enduring the 70-degree slopes and slippery terrain (darn those leaves). Despite that, it was worth it, I thought, given that I was seeing something for the first time. We ate our lunch there before *hiking* all the way back again, using a shortcut we didn’t even take when getting there.

Heavily perspiring, we once again rode on the bus to visit the next church ruin at the town of San Nicolas. Fortunately, we didn’t need to hike all the way to this church ruin, as it was already by the side of the highway. Also, it had been thoroughly cleaned already, so the ruins are much much more visible than the one in Sta. Teresita.

After San Nicolas, we visited our last stop – Taal, Batangas. We visited two standing churches; the Basilica of Saint Martin de Tours and the church of Our Lady of Caysasay, before finally setting home, back to UP.

All-in-all, that was a marvelous experience for me. I became closer with my classmates in the process. All the hardwork I did during the trip was definitely worth it.

Say "Hi!" to my new friend, Chimchar. Thank you, Aica and Mark for the wonderful gift.

(For those of you who do not know Chimchar, it’s a fourth generation Pokemon, #390).

Prof Impressions: 2nd Sem, AY 07-08

November 9, 2007 directrix 4 comments

Another semester had started, so once again, it’s time for my Prof Impressions.

Physics 72 MTHFCR: Bhazel Anne Rara:: When you first meet her, you could say right away that she is a good person, and a good professor. Her string of patience is long (how else would she handle a large class such as ours?).

[I canceled this subject] PE 2 BR: Ma. Louella Caces:: I think she’s not as bad as people think, but I admit, her requirements/class policies are a bit too much, especially with those surprise quizzes, and she said so herself that he fails students (but never mentioned on what grounds will she fail a student — I’m guessing that it will be based on the quizzes). She also mentioned that she hates to hear cellphones going off, or else she’ll confiscate it and will only return it after the end of the semester.

Eng 11 MHV: Carmencita Abayan:: First impressions would tell you that she is masungit, but on the contrary, she is quite a kind professor. She inserts jokes here and there during discussions, and she’s smiling most of the time. On our class, she had the class report on different topics that we will tackle throughout the semester; and personally, I don’t like reporting in front of class and knowing that you’ll be graded for it.

Math 55 MHW: Leny Deita:: She’s a “cool” instructor, and can easily be approached by her students. One thing to note though, is that her teaching pace is… too fast for most people. So be prepared.

Math 157 TFX1: Henry Adorna:: At first glance, you wouldn’t think he’s a professor. But this guy knows his stuff. I also enjoy his lectures because you get the feeling that you’re just having a casual (yet insightful) conversation with him. At first, he might look scary, but I think he is not.

CS 32 TFU: Evangel Quiwa:: The legend, Sir Quiwa, is one guy you would admire. Teaching is his second nature. Just one thing, though: he speaks very softly. He should use a microphone when teaching. If his voice was a little louder, his lectures would always be enjoyable. You really have to sit in front of the class to fully understand and appreciate the Quiwa Experience. He likes to make-up acronyms for stuff.

Leaving for Diliman tomorrow

November 6, 2007 directrix 1 comment

Sigh. The short vacation is over. I am set to leave Batangas for Diliman tomorrow by noon. See you guys there!

On Thursday, I will start enrolling for the second semester. UP Diliman will be doing the entire registration process electronically. For those who were unlucky enough to experience a “beta” of this system during the summer term know how painful the new system will be.

You scored as Dog

The patronus you would yield would be a dog. Like the dog you are probably very faithful to those who have treat you well in the past. However this can be seen as a negative as you are very willing to be affectionate to the kindness of strangers.

FA 30 field trip or Math 54 midterm?

August 5, 2007 directrix 3 comments

I’m under a slight dilemma right now. Somebody (I’m assuming it’s my professor) texted me that the field trip for my Fine Arts 30 class will be on August 10 and will end on August 13. The problem is that my midterm examination in Math 54 is scheduled on August 11. I really want to join the field trip (and merely joining the field trip will exempt me from the FA 30 final exam), but with the Math midterm intervening with that, what should I do? Would it be possible to schedule an advance or late exam (even if it’s departmental)? Or do I have no choice but to not go on the trip? Help me. Please.

UPDATE: The trip is moved to two weeks from now! Yay!

We’ve finally made the switch from Globelines Broadband to PLDT myDSL after our two-year contract with Globe expired two weeks ago. And so far, myDSL is performing very well. Well, better than Globe’s service anyway.

No more intermittent connections! I hope this keeps up.

Dorm: Good news and bad news

July 10, 2007 directrix Leave a comment

First, the good news: I’ve finally been accepted into a dormitory! I got accepted at Ipil Residence Hall according to the July 9 batch of results.

Now, the bad news: I’ll be a tambay-boy at Molave forever! (Well, maybe not forever… *wink wink*)
