On CWTS-EnggCS

June 24, 2007 directrix 4 comments

We had our first CWTS-EnggCS class last Friday. Miss Christine Clarin from the Department of Computer Science is our CWTS instructor.

Our CWTS is Computer Literacy. It means we get to teach high school students the very basics of computers. For the first semester, we’ll be making our courseware, which we will use when we actually start teaching in the second semester.

Ma’am Chris says that teaching children is a very fulfilling experience, especially if you can see the children actually wanting to learn. She showed us a slideshow from last year’s CWTS class, and from there I could say that she’s right.

I can’t wait to teach!

The cold is “common” again.

June 23, 2007 directrix 2 comments

Sigh, I have a cold. My throat is very sore at the moment, making it hard for me to speak loudly and clearly (but I can still swallow food without pain). I started taking medication this morning to reduce the swelling. I hope my throat would at least become OK before I return to UP on Sunday.

I hope this doesn’t get worse.

UPDATE: My sore throat is gone! Though I still feel a little woozy.

Happy Birthday Jose Rizal (and some random thoughts)

June 19, 2007 directrix 4 comments

Today is Jose Rizal’s birthday! Happy birthday, Pareng Pepe. ;-)

My friends from UPLB visited UPD today. We ate some isaw before they set off to travel back to Laguna. I’m so envious! They had no classes today; it was Laguna Day (Jose Rizal’s birthday). Kailan kaya ulit mawawalan ng pasok dito sa UPD? :-)

I’m starting to enjoy my FA30 class. My professor’s OK, he seems kind of nice (even funny sometimes) to the class.

Please pray for all the dorm applicants in Molave who are still hoping to get accepted (like me!). I’m just not used to living alone in a boarding house! I want to have roommates, floormates and dormmates! I don’t want to be a loner forever.

First impressions on my new professors and instructors.

June 17, 2007 directrix 5 comments

Now that I’ve finally met all my instructors and professors for this semester, I thought I could write about my first impressions on them, just like what I did last year.

My Math 54 instructor is Rovin Santos. He seems to be a friendly guy. He isn’t strict at all regarding attendance (he said he’ll never check our attendance). We only have four long exams, instead of the usual five or six (could this mean that the exams will be harder?).

For CS21, Prof. Manuel Ramos (from the EEE Department) is our instructor. Though he only met us for a few minutes (before dismissing us), I could say that he’s not that strict. Though he requires us to use Ubuntu Linux as our OS for developing assembly apps, and using FASM as our assembler.

For Physics 71, my instructor is Ms. Jacque Gabayno. She teaches like a high school teacher; she even speaks like one (I really don’t know, maybe it’s just me).

Ms. Pam Crosby is my Geography 1 instructor. A friend of mine told me that this instructor is very unoable, especially if you join the class field trip.

Prof. Rubén D.F. Defeo (he insists we put an accent mark on the”e”) is my Fine Arts 30 instructor. It’s pretty obvious that he’s very passionate about art. I get the feeling, though, that his subject is going to be pretty study-intensive. Some say he’s unoable, but I’ve yet to feel that way.

And finally, my Duckpin Bowling instructor, Mr. Ronualdo Dizer. He was my Table Tennis instructor last semester. Mabait ito sa prerog; on our first meeting, he accepted like, thirty students asking for teacher’s prerogative. Our class actually doubled in size! So, to those unlucky enough not to get a PE class (through online/manual/realtime enlistment), look for his classes (he teaches table tennis, duckpin bowling, tenpin bowling, and orienteering).

Classes had begun!

June 13, 2007 directrix 1 comment

Regular classes started yesterday here in UP. Pretty ironic, considering that yesterday was Araw ng Kalayaan.

I’m still hoping to get a slot at a UP Dormitory (preferrably Molave Residence Hall), although I’m currently living in a boarding house inside the campus (Hardin ng Doña Aurora). Please pray for me and my friends who are currently reapplying for a dormitory slot (read: REAPPLYING).

I can’t believe it! We already have a reading assignment in Physics 71 and a quiz on Math 54! Would this mean that I’m going to have a very busy semester? I hope not.

New School Year.

June 3, 2007 directrix 5 comments

Regular registration in UP starts next week. How fast time flies; it seems just yesterday when I left Kalayaan Residence Hall… now a new school year will start. No longer am I a freshman, I am officially a sophomore.

I still haven’t got my slot for any of the two dormitories, Yakal or Molave. I don’t know if I should still be hoping to get a slot. Maybe I should start looking for a boarding house or an apartment (if I could get some housemates). Owie’s looking for a place to stay, maybe I should join him. I was planning to ask Sasa, Brenda, Owie to join me and look for a boarding house, but with Brenda now having a slot at Molave, it would be a problem, dahil walang makakasama si Sasa. We should discuss this, right?

I really miss my friends in UP. I’m missing them so much. I hope to see them soon.
